wattz
Command & Conquer Generals 2 Becomes Free AAA C&C Game Taken from Now Gamer Command & Conquer Generals 2 has evolved into free-to-play, Frostbite 2-powered RTS Command & Conquer. Command & Conquer Generals 2 is no more, and will instead be folded into a brand new - free - game simply called Command & Conquer, EA has announced. Command & Conquer will still be built with Frostbite 2 and give gamers "access to the cutting-edge visuals, sound and destruction of a full, AAA strategy game," at no cost. Describing the new Command & Conquer as an "online platform and service", the free, client-based game will launch for PC in 2013 The Generals universe will be included as "the first of many free offerings within the storied franchise EA is planning," so there's plenty of room for micros-transactions yet. "For nearly two decades, this franchise has existed as something you buy; now we are creating a destination where our fans will be able to access the entire Command and Conquer universe, starting with Generals and continuing with Red Alert, Tiberium, and beyond," said Jon Van Caneghem, VP/GM at EA. “With Frostbite 2, we are able to keep an emphasis on the AAA quality our consumers expect while staying true to the RTS gameplay they know and love – all available online for free.” How Frostbite 2 will work in a browser is unclear, but expect "fully destructible environments, dynamic physics", and a game that "will evolve and develop with an expanding array of new content based on community feedback."http://www.commandandconquer.com/free/
